Since 2005, CSID began working on a training manual which would explain the complex theories of Islam and democracy in terms that an average citizen would understand and be able to put into practice. These citizenship education workshops entitled the “Islam and Democracy: Towards an Effective Citizenship” target Tunisians of all backgrounds. The main goal of these workshops is to merge the principles and provisions of Islam with the foundations and rules of democracy through a horizontal pedagogical model. The training manual was drafted in cooperation with Street Law Inc., a US-based NGO which has been working for more than 40 years in developing educational curricula to define the values of justice and democracy all over the world.
The Center for the Study of Islam & Democracy (CSID) is a non-profit organization, based in Washington DC, dedicated to studying Islamic and democratic political thought and merging them into a modern Islamic democratic discourse.
